Spring Home Expo

Join Leon County Government for the Spring Home Expo featuring informational workshops and demonstrations for homeowners, homebuyers, and renters. Attendees can enjoy:

  • Workshops on homeowners insurance, heir property, and homebuying strategies for success.
  • Do-it-yourself demonstrations with tips to grow a sustainable garden, prepare your home and family for a disaster, and more.
  • Great giveaways to spruce up your home.

Breakfast will be provided.

National Autism Acceptance Month
 
Leon County Government celebrates autism and neurodiversity during National Autism Acceptance Month with art exhibits, a resource fair, and sensory story times for all ages and abilities from the LeRoy Collins Leon County Public Library System. Topical book lists and movie watchlists give citizens the opportunity to learn more about neurodiversity and the experience of living on the spectrum.

Press the Chest

The annual Press the Chest community CPR training event is coming Saturday, May 11. Hosted by Leon County EMS, people of all ages are invited to learn the lifesaving skills of adult hands-only CPR, child CPR with breaths, adult and child choking relief, and AED awareness. Each participant will receive an American Heart Association CPR Anytime Kit containing a CPR manikin, DVD, and educational materials. Participants can take these personal CPR kits home to train family and friends.

Retire Old Rubber During Tire Amnesty Days

Leon County Government, in partnership with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, is hosting its annual Tire Amnesty Days program, a free tire collection to reduce mosquito breeding grounds. Now through Friday, May 17, 2024, citizens can drop off old tires for free at the following Leon County facilities:

  • Leon County Solid Waste Facility, 7550 Apalachee Pkwy.
  • Rural Waste Center – Fort Braden, 2485 East Joe Thomas Rd.
  • Rural Waste Center – Miccosukee, 13051 Miccosukee Rd.
  • Rural Waste Center – Woodville, 549 Henry Jones Rd.

Residents may dispose of up to 25 passenger car tires free of charge. Commercial loads will not be accepted. Tires without rims are preferred.

Apply for a Summer Job with Leon County!

Leon County Government is now accepting applications for the Summer Youth Training Program. In partnership with CareerSource Capital Region, the five-week Summer Youth Training Program provides young adults ages 14-24 years old job experience by working with a Leon County department over the summer. All positions are 20 hours per week and pay $12 per hour. Summer employment and training will run from Monday, June 10 through Friday, July 12, 2024. Apply by Friday, April 19, at 5 p.m. EST at LeonCountyFL.gov/SummerYouth.

Leon County Passes Ordinance to Prohibit Unauthorized Solicitation on Private Property
On February 20, 2024, the Leon County Board of County Commissioners approved the adoption of an Ordinance prohibiting unauthorized solicitation on private property with posted signage. The Ordinance provides that if a property owner or tenant of private property obtains the appropriate “No Solicitation” sign and displays it as required, and a person is soliciting on that property without the required express written consent, it will be presumed that the person is soliciting in violation of the Ordinance and subject to its penalties. County Launches Improved Website

Leon County unveiled its newly improved and redesigned website, providing intuitive access to information on the County’s wide array of services and programs. The relaunch includes the revamp of the Leon County Public Library website at LeonCountyFL.gov/Library, providing seamless access to an extensive array of library services and resources. The enhanced website reflects the County’s commitment to providing an improved user experience and fostering community engagement.
