Leon County invites you to #BeALifeSaver at the ninth annual Press the Chest – a community-wide CPR training event – on Saturday, June 8, at the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center, 505 W. Pensacola St., from 10 a.m. until noon. Check-in begins at 9 a.m.

Press the Chest  is an annual event that focuses on the importance of providing the community with the skills, knowledge and confidence to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).  County events like Press the Chest contribute to Leon County’s cardiac survival rate of 41%, which far exceeds the national average of 18%. To register, visit www.LeonCountyFL.gov/PressTheChest.

Since 2010, Leon County has trained more than 11,000 people on how to do CPR correctly with hands-on instruction. Highly credentialed Leon County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel will teach life-saving recommendations made by the American Heart Association. These recommendations include C-A-B (Compressions-Airway-Breathing) along with the new emphasis on “Hands-Only CPR.” Participants will also be taught how to use Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs). This is not a certification event.

Each participant of Press the Chest will receive an American Heart Association personal “CPR Anytime” kit containing a CPR manikin, DVD, and educational materials. The kits are for participants to train family and friends on CPR. The event is hosted in collaboration with the Florida State Medical Response Unit, FSU University Health Services, Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare, Capital Regional Medical Center, FAMU Student Health Services, Brian Barnard Flooring America,  Florida Department of Health  in Leon County, and TCC EMS Program.

Also, building upon the success of Press the Chest and the County’s high medical standards, Leon County EMS was recently awarded the American Heart Association’s Mission:Lifeline Gold Plus EMS Recognition. This distinction recognizes Leon County EMS for applying the most up-to-date evidence-based treatment guidelines to improve patient care and outcomes throughout the community.
